While I can understand there was a rush to beat the Nook with an International release of the Kindle. Just makes good business sense, but your been caught out with not be prepared for the international effects of authors. So you got one right and one wrong, this is business.

So while we are waiting for a change in policy, which you cant tell us when, are you at least considering taking names and email addresses, to keep us informed?

Is there a way to use a test environment or a sand pit, for us to prepare ebooks ready for your requirements, for when yo do get an account methodology we can use?

Regards
Tony

Unfortunately, at this point of time we cannot provide a time frame. However, please note that we are working on it and plan to make DTP available to non-US authors soon.

OK, fair enough. But one would wish this fact be made clear right from the start in the DTP pages. Which isn't the case now.

I'm with a reasonably large European publisher (150/200 books a year) and we were already starting to discuss publishing Kindle-versions of some of our books on Amazon on a test basis, only to find out very late in the registration process that we are not allowed to sell our products through Amazon.

Highly disappointing.

Those are reasonable requests, but I doubt you will get any satisfaction. Understand that the DTP is a very minor part of the Kindle operation, and the Kindle operation is a very minor (and probably money-losing) part of the Amazon operation. Be patient, and check back in January. The month leading up to Christmas is given over to joy, universal love, and the sound of cash registers jingling.

Hi. Now that the Kindle can now be shipped to Canada, does this mean that Canadian publishers with a Canadian bank account can soon publish books for sale in the Kindle Store?

As Rick said to what's-her-name: 'Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And for the rest of your life.'

Apparently they're not taking new publishers at Mobipocket. If you're already signed up, there's no change.

I read one Canadian's story of how s/he got a US bank account. It wasn't that hard. Just go to your nearest border town. I still agree that we shouldn't have to go through the extra hassle, but unfortunately it's not just Amazon that has these policies.

I also came across a Canadian company that charges Canadians $50 a year to publish through them. They are set up with Kindle and have a US account. They pass on the money to you, minus a small fee. Can't remember their name right now.

Nor only US companies! I once had a bank account in London, so as to pay small research expenses that were billed in sterling, but stupidly let it lapse when the project was done. When I tried to revive it a year or so ago, I couldn't without a visit to the physical bank.

9/11 changed all that stuff. Opening a bank account in another country is now very complicated or very (in the case of dedicated offshore banks) very expensive.
