I am a Vietnam Veteran that self-published a book 20 years ago and has not really done anything significant with the marketing and promotion for at least 15 years. However, because of so many young Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan being impacted the War, I know the book would help them.

The problem is I want to give the book away and just receive donations or underwriters, I really want the Veterans to be able to read the book for their help. I have gotten a web site (HopeAfter.org) started that we want to put it on, but again I want to give it away "Free".

Please e-mil me at realproduction@prodigy.net, if you have a company or would like to help in this effort before 'Veterans Day, Nov. 11,09". Thanks in advance.

You might look into Operation ebook drop. It is not exactly what you are looking for but it may suffice. However, I don't believe you can ask for donations or anything else. It is just free. It was started by Ed Patterson and we give away books to active duty personnel serving overseas. You can read about it at http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,13352.0.html There is also another thread about it on Amazon's forums. You can email Ed at
edwpat (at) att (dot) net if you have any questions.

I second the Operation eBook Drop suggestion. The way to go about it is to upload your book to SmashWords.com and to let the Meat Grinder process it into all the formats offered.

There are a hundred or so deployed troops (and a few moms) on that Op eBook Drop list. You can email them a copy of your book or give them the link to your SmashWords page. If you want to put a price on the book, then you use the SmashWords option to create a 100 percent-off coupon that you can email to the troops.

The *mobi extension supposedly can be read on the Kindle. There are other options, including plain text and html.

My Vietnam novel, Incident at Muc Wa, is on SmashWords and in Op eBook Drop: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/4094
